  February 28-March 4 Academic Updates We will: Focus on the “ar” sound in words like: charm, warm, alarm, bark, star Do several assessments in order to have very recent data for report cards More writing and editing Review addition and subtraction strategies Create maps Performance! Mark your calendars! On March 23 all Lincoln Firsties will take the stage! The three first grade classrooms will be performing a musical revue called Pajama Party.  Children will be asked to wear their pajamas, slippers, and robes on this day.  Children will perform for the school during the day.  In the evening, there will be a performance for the families in the auditorium at St. Joseph High School.   January 31 - February 4 Exciting News I am thrilled to share that we will have a student from Western Michigan University’s College of Education joining us in the role of Pre-Intern for the next few months.  His name is Anthony Allen. He will join us all day on Mondays and Wednesdays.  In this role he will observe my teaching and get to know the children.  Over time he will take on additional responsibilities such as instructing small groups, lesson planning, teaching whole group lessons, and trying out all the different things he’ll need to do during his primary internship and subsequent teaching career. When I shared this news with the class they were excited, but a few expressed concerns that things will be very different.  I reassured them that I am not going anywhere!   January 24-28 Academic Updates We will: Count large collections of objects Add and subtract 10s Study Long E words (speak, tree, please, beak, etc) Summarize text Read fairy tales STEM We have some fun STEM tasks coming up this week that relate to the fairy tales we will be reading.  We could use some additional supplies: toilet paper/paper towel tubes, egg cartons, duct tape, painter’s tape, popsicle sticks, small dowel rods, and pipe cleaners. If you have any of these items laying around we will put them to good use! Half Days We have half days on Thursday and Friday.  Enjoy your afternoons! Masks Students have been going through a lot of masks lately.  I think they’re easier to misplace since there are so many other things to keep track of this time of year.
