Academic Updates

  • Our Positivity Project theme this week is curiosity

  • We will be doing our first reader’s theater of the year

  • In math we continue to solve story problems using numbers within 10, finding the missing sum, relating addition to subtraction, and explaining the equal sign

  • We will work on high frequency words

  • We will focus on r blends this week (pr, br, tr, fr, cr, etc.)

  • There will be a number of fun activities this week as we enjoy some Halloween fun

  • Where they store their belongings at school

  • Forgiveness

  • What is means to do whole body listening

  • When to use a period

  • Reader's theater and what their parts are (they'll know on Monday)


Halloween Party

Our classroom party will be Friday, October 29 from 1:20-2:05.  The school-wide parade will be at 3:15 outside on the blacktop/playground area.

April 18-22 NWEA ELA testing dates: April 25, 26, and 27 Math testing dates: May 3, 4    I try hard to make this a nonthreatening experience.  However, it is important that the children take the testing seriously so that we get the best information possible.  Please discuss this with your child and encourage them to do their best.  Many will need to be reminded that it’s not a race! Additionally, please do what you can to be sure your child is at school on those days! Week 18

January 17-21 Academic Updates We will: Do lots of subtraction! Use 10s to subtract Relate counting to addition and subtraction Read and write long i patterns (sight, bike, kite, fight, etc.) Practice making inferences  More editing Write about penguins Learn about perseverance Masks Students having been going through a lot of masks lately.  I think they’re easier to misplace since there are so many other things to keep track of this time of year. If possible, please be sure your child has extras in his or her backpack.  Conferences Our next round of conferences will be on January 27th.  If you have not received an email from me requesting a conference I do not feel that one is needed for your child at this time.  If you would like to discuss your child’s progress I am happy to do so.  Please email me and we will set it up! Week 20

  January 31 - February 4 Exciting News I am thrilled to share that we will have a student from Western Michigan University’s College of Education joining us in the role of Pre-Intern for the next few months.  His name is Anthony Allen. He will join us all day on Mondays and Wednesdays.  In this role he will observe my teaching and get to know the children.  Over time he will take on additional responsibilities such as instructing small groups, lesson planning, teaching whole group lessons, and trying out all the different things he’ll need to do during his primary internship and subsequent teaching career. When I shared this news with the class they were excited, but a few expressed concerns that things will be very different.  I reassured them that I am not going anywhere!
