  May 31-June 3 Thank you! The kids had a terrific time at our field/game day Friday. A HUGE thank you to all the parents how got soaked with us! The rain certainly made the day more memorable. Kiwanis Park Day Note change: We will now leave school at 10:30.   Information came home Friday about this change as well as lunch order forms.  The school will provide bag lunches, but if you prefer to send your own please indicate this on the form provided.  Please send any lunches from home in disposable packaging.  Teachers will provide water.  Parents are welcome to join us! School lunches are not available for parents.   May 23-27 End of year Happenings There is A LOT going on!  Countdown Today we will be starting a countdown to the end of the school year.  Each day will have a special theme.  Please check with your child every night until the end of the year to see what the special day is for the following day.  Game Day-May 27 1:00-3:00pm in the courtyard.  This is for the entire First Grade. May 16-20 Animal Projects Wow! These have been so wonderful to see.  The children have been so proud to share their work with each other.  I know it was a big chunk of time at home. Thank you! Items needed for class this week We need a bunch of paper towel and toilet paper tubes this week.  Please send some in as you’re using up rolls.  Thank y0u!! We also need shoe boxes--hopefully 12. We're going to attempt to make solar ovens. If you have any experience with this please let me know! Finally, some scraps of fabric would be terrific! Parent Help We will need parent volunteers for a potentially very messy task on Friday, May 20, at 3:00. Please bring your staplers and come help us on Monday, June 6, at 12:00. Please let me know if you’re able to help!  These are things I cannot do alone.  

  May 9-13 Teacher Appreciation Week Thank you all so much for an amazingly encouraging week.  I loved all the lovely flowers and incredibly generous gifts. I found great encouragement in the numerous notes from students and kind words from parents.  Thank you! It is an honor and privilege to teach your children. Animal Project The work your child has been doing in class came home Friday.  Hopefully this information will help you to complete projects together.  If your child has only completed a couple of pages in the packet, please encourage them to work on it at home.   **Folders and packets need to come back to school on Monday.  Projects are due on May 13. April 25-29 NWEA ELA testing dates: April 25, 26, and 27 Math testing dates: May 2, 3, 4    Please be sure your child’s computer is charged! Field Trip Hurray!  We will be going to Sarett Nature Center on Thursday, April 28.  We will ride the bus.  If you would like to meet us there you are more than welcome to do so.  The cost for parents is $5.  This can be paid upon arrival at Sarett.  Animal Project Choice Boards were sent home on Friday.  Please review these together and help your child decide which projects he or she would like to complete. The idea of a due date is brand new to Firsties.  We will discuss this in class and talk about pacing.  Please help us reinforce this idea.  

April 18-22 NWEA ELA testing dates: April 25, 26, and 27 Math testing dates: May 3, 4    I try hard to make this a nonthreatening experience.  However, it is important that the children take the testing seriously so that we get the best information possible.  Please discuss this with your child and encourage them to do their best.  Many will need to be reminded that it’s not a race! Additionally, please do what you can to be sure your child is at school on those days! Mr.  Allen’s Last Day Mr. Allen’s presence in our classroom has been overwhelmingly positive.  He has been a huge help to me, but more importantly to our Firsties!  The time he has spent working with and nurturing the kiddos these last months has been invaluable.  His last day with us is Wednesday.  Since he won’t be with us on Tuesday we will spend time making him some special things.  I’ll bring a treat for everybody on Wednesday to have a bit of a sendoff party...

April 11-15 Welcome back to the routine! We have so much yet to learn this year! Students will be very busy in our remaining 9 weeks together. Practice at Home In order to prepare your Firstie for the move to 2nd grade please be sure to spend time on the following every week: Nightly reading Addition and subtraction flashcards Lexia IXL or Moby RAZ kids, Storyline Online, or EPIC Journaling Animal Project First Graders will be VERY busy in the coming weeks researching an animal and creating a variety of projects to show their understanding of its physical characteristics, habitat, food sources, and predators.  Information will be coming home in your child’s Friday folder this week for your review and signature. While most of the research will be done at school, the projects will be completed at home.
